Amy Carlson
Born in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Amy
Carlson spent most of her childhood in the Chicago area. Amy was a part of her
family in Chicago, when she was in junior high school. Parents, Bob, and Barb
taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy has three siblings,
sisters Betsy and Lori and Joe, the brother. Joe. Amy has backpacked all over
Europe with her entire family and on her own. Because her parents worked as
teachers and teachers, they could spend every summer together traveling and
camping across the United States. They've camped in every American state with
the exception of Alaska. Amy was in Rwanda in 1994 following the war to help
with the relief efforts. Amy displayed her talent for art early when she was
acting in school productions, and winning writing contests. She was an athlete
of great potential during high school, and was a participant in the very first
3200-meter relay at the Illinois girls track. After sustaining an injury, she
could return to the stage and take on a variety of roles that included Lanford
Wilson's "Fifth of July" and Wallace Shawn's directorial "Aunt
Dan and Lemon". Amy attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, where
she graduated with a cum laude, an B.A. East Asian history, with an emphasis on
Theater. After graduation, she moved to Chicago and pursued a degree in Improv
at the Improv Olympic. She also studied acting at The Actor's Center. After
graduation she was offered a contract job for the no-longer-running soap drama
Another World (1964). She was nominated in the "Outstanding Supporting
Actress in Daytime Drama Series" category for the Daytime Emmy Award. Her
most memorable roles are those played by strong women, including Alex Taylor in
Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone ((2000)), Katie Owen and Tom Berenger in
Peacemakers(2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods(2003). Carlson lives in New
York City with husband Syd Butler, the bassist of Les Savy Fav, where she also
works in the world of independent music as a part-owner of the independent
label "Frenchkiss Records". Amy is continuing to write as well as
look for unique and diverse roles in the film industry.
