Pom Klementieff (born 3 May 1986) is a
French actress. She attended the Cours Florent drama school, Paris. She has
been in films like Loup 2009, Sleepless Night 2011 and Hacker's Game 2015. She
is the voice of Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the
Galaxy Vol. 2. (2017). Avengers: Infinity War (2018). Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Pom Klementieff was the daughter of two parents: a Korean mother, and a father
who was French-Russian. Her father was a consul of Quebec City, Canada. Eugene Klementieff
was her grandfather. Because it is a resemblance to the Korean words for
"spring" or "tiger", her parents named their daughter Pom.
Klementieff was a citizen of Canada for one year. Her family had traveled
extensively due to her father's work. They lived in Japan and the Ivory Coast,
before settling in France. Klementieff lost her father to cancer around age
five. Her mother was also diagnosed with schizophrenia. Klementieff was raised
in France by her aunt and paternal uncle. Her uncle, who she described in her
own words as "like her first father," died on Klementieff’s 18th
birthday. Her brother who was older took his own life seven years later. The
second time, it was her 25th. Klementieff was able to pursue law school after
the passing of her uncle. However, she didn't find the profession appealing.
She was also a waitress in France and a salesperson. Her first acting
experience was at age 19 in the Cours Florent drama school in Paris. In the
early stages of her training, she was awarded an acting competition which
awarded the opportunity to take classes for free for two years with some of the
best teachers. Klementieff was the first actor to play professionally in the
independent French film Apres lui (2007). She played the role of the step-daughter
of the protagonist, Catherine Deneuve. Filming for her scenes was a three-day
process. One scene had Klementieff pushing someone down the set stairs, but she
fell. Gael Morel saved that scene for the final film. Her debut lead role came
in Loup (2009), a French film about a group of reindeer herders located in the
Siberian mountains. During filming, Klementieff stayed in a camping area, which
was hours from the nearest village, where temperatures dropped well below zero.
